placidity and patience

惊蛰。

I recall in grade 12 that I wrote something about my last Spring Break ever, which turned out to be not entirely true. It’s Spring Break again for elementary schools next week, and I am excited because I get to sleep in. I am not a morning person and every 9AM is a time of suffering. No matter how much I sleep, I just can’t bring myself to leave my warm little cave. It’s tedious and I am weak.

So I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy lately. It’s fun but also tiring and I haven’t had much time to draw or do anything entirely for myself… which sucks… at least I still got to bake. I made a honey loaf cake yesterday but unfortunately it’s almost all gone.

Anyway, I’m going to talk briefly about how I make the little collages for this blog. There’s not a lot of steps, but I like to overcomplicate things.

How I Make Digital Collages!

  1. I find a picture taken between the last blog post and today’s post. Since I take hundreds of photos a month, there’s a lot to choose from.
  2. Then, I find one or two secondary images from the same timeframe that I will overlay on top.
  3. I resize, crop, stack, and add adjustment layers. Usually I use Photoshop first, open a blank canvas, and then go nuts.
  4. Sometimes I draw something, or include text.
  5. I also like to add a few final noise filters. The graininess is calming.
  6. Then I save the whole thing and export.

Not much planning goes into it. This week I used a photo of Venus and Jupiter before their conjunction along with a photo of a tree at my brother’s school after the snow. I think it looks nice.
